IRS Statement on 1099 Forms
In the past CDM+ has provided the option to print 1099 forms directly on plain paper. We received an official statement from the IRS that this is not acceptable.
Forms 1096 and 1099 INT are printed with a specific red-ink and the paper has certain requirements for weight. These specifications and requirements must be met when an official IRS form is not used to paper file. Normally, the red-ink produced on standard laser printers (e.g. home and office printers) doesn’t have the OCR red-ink needed to properly scan red-ink forms.
If you are paper filing, we advise ordering the official red-ink form from the IRS or obtaining it from another source (e.g. print shop, paid preparer, payroll company, or IRS walk-in office). You also have the option of electronically filing these forms.
